If making the combination of work (on source
code level) involves "borrowing" a copy of
GPL'd code without any modifications in the
GPL'd code, then the entire stuff that was
merely added to it (keeping original code
intact), won't be "a derivative" of the GPL'd
code, and, for that reason, it can be released
under any non-GPL license or not released at
all (stay closed source). The problem is that
the FSF doesn't agree with that interpretation.
