Animosity pervading most message boards has little to do with core issue discussion like whether posters are long-term holders, swing traders or day traders. Advocating, comparing and rejecting investment approaches is NOT inherently an emotion-charged process. People intentionally or unintentionally interweave emotionally charged messages within their position advocacy statements. Position advocacy and analysis can certainly be encoded without attaching or interweaving invitations to engage in ego wars. Similarly, reading and evaluating investment advocacy statements can certainly be decoded without attaching emotional messages not intended by writers. I said "certainly." I did NOT say easily. In fact breaking these bad habits is hard as hell for most people.

Our society developed, embraces and teaches these bad habits. They impair communications and even disrupt discussion between others who are trying not to take any part in ego wars. If a dog enjoys fighting with other dogs more than working for the team's common goal, it degrades the pack's common interest and is likely to be unable to contribute to their common goal even when it has good intentions. But humans are capable of inner reflection. If your own honest self appraisal tells you that your encoding and decoding communication style has been unintentionally increasing this problem, you CAN DECIDE to change. Each of us can do this. Maybe there are angels among us who would never behave that way. For most of us, resisting those disruptive urges takes effort. We can each privately elect to embrace a better way. You can resist most urges to respond to perceived offenses, whether intended or not. You can develop empathy for those following different strategies so you encode fewer offending messages while still strongly arguing comparative merits of your ideas.

This board is what we make of it. Intentional disrupters should be quickly put on notice that others have noticed their bad intentions. But before pulling the trigger of accusation, an offender's pattern should be indisputable. We each bring our own special backgrounds and insights to this shared discussion. While it's public, only a tiny faction of FRO share traders read it. So we can help each other to our mutual competitive advantage. My understanding of issues relevant to Frontline has benefited greatly and frequently through reading this ongoing conversation. When access to this board's content recently disappeared for a few hours, I felt a real loss. I value it and I think a lot of you do too. I urge all participants to make an effort to focus submissions on FRO relevant content and try to avoid inflaming others and making negative personal comments. Before clicking on submit, check for and remove spelling errors and check for and remove unnecessary disruptive social content.
