I'm not an engineer but I've worked with technology for > 35 years.
Beyond the companies current focus related to CDMA and Vchip WiLan holds patents that are fundamentally related to Bluetooth ( http://www.wi-lan.com/patents/overview.a... 60 GHz Wibree Cognitive Radio RFID DSL Each of these wireless based technologies are intended to meet the needs of various applications aimed at using wireless technology to create the home, office, or car of the future. If you research Wibree, Cognitive Radio, Bluethooth, or RFID, you'l quickly understand how each of these technologies aim to serve a specific need. The article http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/feb08/5916 describes many of the complexities of 60 GHz connectivity and leaves the reader with an inkling of what's to come. Internet connected TV's, Wireless keyboard, mouse, and remote, the ability to readily connect laptops, PDA's, phones (cell & home based), home theater systems, Children's toys, electronic picture frames and a muriad of products that are yet unannounced will result in 10's of billions of dollars in retail sales. Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices such as mobile phones, telephones, laptops, personal computers, printers, Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, digital cameras, and video game consoles. Combine this with Wireless USB ( http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34 ) and imagine how many devices may be sold. Then imagine how wireless Bluetooth being integrated into billions of devices will change the home environment. RFID is just coming into it own. Although its been around a while it is not widely used. One of its primary applications currently is for tracking vehicles using toll roads. Imagine how it may be used in gocery stores for inventory control and then extrapolate that to the home refrigerator creating a shopping list on your home computer. Licensing these technologies is bound to be slow. Companies like Research in Motion and Nokia are relatively simple - They basically make one product. Companies like DLink have dozens of products that currently or will soon use wireless technologies and their needs are complex. Sentiment : Strong Buy Rating :
