Higher margins, lower costs boost Wendy's/Arby's

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Higher margins and lower costs helped push Wendy's/Arby's Group into the black in the third quarter as the fast-food giant reported a swing to profit Thursday.

Wendy's/Arby's earned $14.7 million, or 3 cents a share, on the period, a turn form a loss of $12.1 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time charges, the company said it would have earned 6 cents a share.
