They may have some promising property in the Monterey Shale, but $ 1 billion in short and long term liabilities and not even 20% of that in short-term assets is making this a company that needs to hit out of the park now and not stumble, especially in this pricing environment. Their 90 page report was impressive, but their balance sheet needs some filling out. If they could get their stock price up with some boffo results at Monterey, maybe they could sell a ton of stock and raise $300-400 million and get the boot off their throat. The hundreds of millions of OIP is just an estimate, but they need to confirm it with some successful drilling. Only a handful of wells to be drilled there in 2010. They need a lot more-they have to partner with some company that could speed it up and help them generate a lot of cash flow quickly, without giving away the store. JMO.
