If Sprint's stock price rises, this rises the amount of money that each VM shareholder gets. So, VM stock price will rise as well, because people want the buyout deal. The opposite is true as well (if Sprint stock price declines, so will VM, because VM shareholders won't get as much money in the buyout deal).
