The one move that has worked consistently for me over the last 15-20 years has been buying myself out of a whole by averaging down.

e.g. A little over a year ago I got back into ADM, picking up 1,000 at $27 after the stock had dropped from the $40's. As it continued to fall I picked up another 1,000 at $22, and another 1,000 at $20. It ended up getting into the teens but now it is in the low $30's. I plan on holding out for the high $30's or low $40's.

If you don't mind the wait and you think the price is going appreciably higher in the next 12-24 months by more and average down. Vonage could easily be $5 in the next 12 months and in the high single or low double digits in the next 24 months.
