I respectfully suggest that you may have inadvertently mischaracterized the contents of the "rumor control" section of the ALPA web site.
I'm looking at it right now. To paraphrase, a pilot says ANOTHER PILOT TOLD HIM that Keith Rimer, the System Chief Pilot, told a "small group of pilots" that UAL and LCC were merging. It is unclear if even the second pilot was in the room at the time. No where on the site does it confirm that Captain Rimer spoke those words. I believe the distinction is worth making. Rating :
