Shadow,
Thanks for the technical insights. From what I have heard, UT had to partner with NSN because China Mobile wanted to parse out the contract to some "foreign" companies, thus showing they are not just giving the entire enchilada to the home grown companies (ZTE/Huawei). Because of the partnership and the nature of the competition/customer (China Mobile), the margins are not as good as normal. However, UT is making a push at this point to break into China Mobile and this is a priority. On the other hand, the Softbank Telecom deal had VERY good margins and as mentioned in the call, they are working on a bunch of RFPs at this time. With India's mobile market exploding as well (see latest monthly statistics) and UTs solid relationships with the carriers there, I would not be surprised that a bunch of wins come out of that. I would like to do a recap on the earnings call and add insight to the discussions but am waiting to get some more answers before doing the post. At the very least, this product gives UT a chance to break into new territory and expand their relationship with existing customers. More importantly, compared to iptv, which has its own challenges, it seems PTN can be implemented on a broader basis and is "essential" for customers to improve their networks. This is something the customers have to get/implement if they want to be cost competitive. Rating :
