Listening to the TechAmerica Financial Conference, I was encouraged by the discussion of Samsung’s yield percentages, currently over 70%, which is a considerable rise from less than 20% earlier in the year. Although part of the loss is due to backplane failures unrelated to the OLED process, it is still somewhat less than the speculative 90% figure that was mentioned here on the message board.

I too had also hoped that our Green was in production by now but evidently it is still “under evaluation.” There was a mention of a different “architecture” requirement for phosphorescent materials, which may explain the delay in gearing up for production using Green.

I did not hear anything in the financial comments that would lead me to believe that there will be any significant increases in either revenues or earnings in the upcoming announcement, especially with Green not yet in production. However, I am optimistic that 2010 will finally see some meaningful results.

Like many on this board, I have been riding this train for several years now, always anticipating that the station was just around the next bend, only to discover that we were still miles away. But one can no longer ignore the massive infusion of capital by major players that is flowing into new production lines for screens, and the announcement of actual lighting products from companies such as Armstrong and Osram.

OLEDs are coming, along with a host of new, ground-breaking products that will dazzle and delight the average consumer. Consider yourselves fortunate that you are in on the beginning of a technology that 99% of the population doesn’t even know exists…yet.
