Re: The higher unemployment goes the better for HD      6-Nov-09 12:50 pm
Stop it. The tide of declining real consumer income will strand businesses on the beach. It is true lower real incomes will favor the value proposition of core DIY. But, the result will be a business stuck in the waves rather than high and dry like many others.
It is true that so far Obama policies have resulted in lower consumer incomes as productivity rockets almost of the charts. Sadly a good portion of the decline is not outright unemployment but real declining wages.
The troubling trend we saw begin under Clinton through the Bush years remain intact and is even more virulent under Obama. Business that sells what we must have are lowering costs and expanding profit margins by not just productivity but directly reducing real wages.
It is true the economic situation is the primary cause of this acceleration. But a year later this was completely avoidable today. Had Obama and the democrats addressed energy self sufficiency, stability and cost first, the economy would likely now be in a full job creating recovering rather than negative job creation economic growth.
The economy is driven by the short term perception of the likely future. If the market or economy believed we were going to develop our vast natural gas wealth and displace oil as a matter of urgent military and economic security policy, we would be on the road to a long term sustainable job creation boom today.
Hopefully the Republicans have wised up.(Yea I got that form Bill O) It is not that Americans now trust the party. Polls in the 30% show we do not. Rather we are being driven to them by the outlandish arrogance of the radical democratic leadership. The country needs mature patriots more than either party in leadership.
Reasonable energy efficiency is good policy. But, it is no solution and Mr. Market knows it. In fact, following a policy which directs capital into the extreme margin of the utility curve is going to enhance the already; red flashing strobe, destructive trend of big business keeping all the productivity gain. It is simply yet another capital intensive hurdle which is in reality a barrier to competition. Yes, higher real prices which are not alone the primary cause of even lower real incomes.
Believe me, the vision of the secular pagan minority cheering as their leaders prance about on the paper statue of the goddess of human reason is not a pleasant one. It should scare every free thinking person to a bone shaking shiver.
Now I am not a big Clinton fan for many reasons. But ‘its jobs stupid’ was pragmatic. This is the focus we need for the benefit of all Americans. The Home Depot share price is no exception.
