Front projector vendors are seeing chip shortage, especially for DLP chips from Texas Instruments (TI), amid surging demand since the second quarter of 2009, and they expect the shortage to last until the end of 2009, according to industry players.
BenQ China president Hank Horng indicated that due to the chip shortage, the company's third-quarter projector shipments in China stayed flat at the second-quarter level of about 26,000 units. BenQ estimates that its projector shipments in China were 3,000 units short of demand in September, and 5,000 units short in the Asia Pacific region because of the chip shortage, Horng noted.
