Corzine recovering from loss in St. Barts

He must love getting roasted.

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, seen here slouching on the healing sands of St. Barts, has retreated to the Caribbean to recover from his crushing defeat at the polls Tuesday.

Helping him lick his wounds is bikini-clad gal pal Sharon Elghanayan, 64, who was seen smooching and walking hand in hand with the lame-duck Democrat after his loss to Republican challenger Christopher Christie.

The two arrived on the island by private plane Friday with two friends and rented a villa on Flamands Beach, sources said.

After eating lunch at a posh restaurant, they took a stroll along the water, then stopped to catch some rays.

The bare-chested multimillionaire sank into a lounge chair with his girlfriend close by.

The governor got dumped by voters fed up with high taxes, despite last-minute help on the stump from President Obama and a campaign war chest of $24 million, three times what Christie spent.

His term had some stressful moments, including a near-fatal crash in 2007 while he was riding, unbelted, in a speeding State Police car and the embarrassing revelations about a previous romantic relationship with labor leader Carla Katz

Corzine's ex-wife, Joanne, claimed his affair with Katz ended their 33-year marriage and reportedly said Corzine "let his family down and [will] probably let New Jersey down, too."

The first single governor in the Garden State since 1954, Corzine, 62, started dating twice-divorced New York psychotherapist Elghanayan during his first race for governor in 2005. At the time, he told the Star-Ledger newspaper, "She's one of the most stable human beings I've ever met. She's got an equilibrium."

The two have also been seen at play in Telluride, Colo., France and Mexico.

While his immediate plans are clearly to relax and get a tan, it's not clear what the future holds for Corzine, who served as a US senator from 2001 to 2006. Some have speculated the former Goldman Sachs CEO will head back to Wall Street.
