Charlie gasparino, you are missing the point on GS and others shorting the toxic assets. The toxic assets were invented by them, and found their way into 401K money mkt funds and bond funds, where they still sit today. Very few 401k's even have a US treasury money market fund (for safety), let alone a way to short any market. GS and others had to invent other derivatives to do the shorting. Dont you get it??? Seriously. the public is not allowed to hedge their bets, not even allowed to seek safety in their 401k. My wifes mny mkt fund , in her 401k is 75% mortgage and financial institution paper and govt agency (freddie fanny etc.) 75 FKN %%%.
