Broadly speaking, I haven't really heard positive stuff on healthcare. Some bigger names in IT have done well. This article showed up associated with another stock I follow--but obviously not here. Along with timing of the article, it says some relevant things to STRM's business that are worth checking out. I'm not too quick to agree with its negative scenario for the small facilities, though. I think there's significant exaggeration with regard to policy effects.

"A lot of the Obama healthcare reform is centered on changing Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement in the near term.... [I]t's small-row hospitals that are heavily dependent on Medicare and Medicaid revenues. For those hospitals, Medicare/Medicaid accounts anywhere from 50% to 70% of the revenue base. So any healthcare reform that's coming down hurts them in the near term. The second part is many of these hospitals are in towns where the local economies have been affected by fast-rising unemployment rates. So you have the double-barrel effect - that is, a hospital that's facing a fast-rising local unemployment rate, and they have the exposure to Medicare and Medicaid that's going to undergo government reforms. For them, they're maybe in a situation where they will pull back or hesitate to adopt healthcare IT until either the local economy improves or they have better visibility on Obama healthcare reform."

"What's going to happen in the industry three to five years from now is, what we are going to see is massive consolidation in the industry. What will happen is a lot of these smaller niche players, which have niche or specific function software, are going to be absorbed by mid-sized companies."
