Looks like the Eagleford is getting hotter. People are trying to get into St. Mary's, TXCO's and APC's lease block in southern Maverick Co. Some smaller fractional lease interests have been open for a while, but TXCO dropped the ball and didn't approach the mineral owners when the leases started expiring a little over a year ago. Now SM is reported to have spud the new Tovar well and there is an unleased 1/16th interest under a gross 30,000 acres on which this well is located. What is SM thinking? With well costs of $5MM, they will carry the mineral owners to the tanks for the open 1/16th interest at a cost to SM of $312M. Nice Independence Day gift for the mineral owners.
