Just read an interesting article / white paper. You must be an Information Week subscriber to get the info ... There was a tie to Dell
( IMO the smartphone is too small and the laptop is too big .. and I think business will agree. )
The main thrust was as follows ...
1. Netbooks will increase in sales from 25,000,000 to 50,000,000 in the next 2 years.
2. There is a strong tax incentive to buy devices under $500.00 as they can be expensed rather than depreciated. Quality netbooks can be bought in this price range.
3. Netbooks when compared with other devices meet or exceed operating time on battery ( up to 8 hours ) .. Screen size in the 7 " range.
Dell semed very interested in this form factor. However there is some doubt that Dell is geared up to deal with security, software, scaling .. and etc. Their recent aquisitions .. Perot and other companies are going to " stress " the company for awhile ..
The above is the summary of the paper ... below is my opinion.

SCLD is positioned to solve problems for the following .. Govt's ( Fed and lower ... National and international ), Dell , RIMM ,( and others ) .. This includes branches of the Govt .. Healthcare , DOD , Finance etc.
Here are the areas that I think apply to various segments ..
Dell ... Needs to compete successfully against othe box companies .. HP,AAPL etc .. and must be flexible in OS .. MSFT, Linux ..etc ..
RIMM ... Needs to grow international market shares ( They are not dominant outside the US ) .. They must stay relevant with form factor .. I believe they need to provide and option in the netbook area
Govts of all sizes nationally and internationally-must become " mobile " (Period) .. As they become mobile ... They must be secure, functional , coordinated and energy efficient ...
SCLD needs to stay on the leading edge of the needs of the above entities and be " Best of breed " ... in serving the needs of the above ..
A tall order ... but I believe that is the
" business plan "
In spite of the naysayers ... I am convinced SCLD is directly focused on the target !!!
