There's also a good article in this week's Economist magazine about Nestle's push for more health-conscious food items and its emphasis on R&D. Sorry I can't link the article (must login as a subscriber). No direct mention of Senomyx, but it's worth reading nonetheless.

The article says that Nestle reinvests over 2% of sales revenues back into R&D, whereas Kraft is closer to 1%. This may help explain why Kraft cancelled the SNMX contract in '07 (short term profit motive instead of long term planning) while Nestle continues to work with SNMX.

The article also mentions that Nescafe, Nestle's popular coffee product, comes in over 200 flavors. Remember, Nestle and SNMX are moving forward on a flavor enhancer (with later possibility for a second enhancer) in the coffee and coffee whiteners field, which should expose the SNMX enhancers to another very large market. My guess is that this is probably bitter blocker and/or sweetner (sucrose?) enhancers, but they're not disclosing the specifics right now. Either way, it should be another interesting development for SNMX.

I think there are just too many good things going on with SNMX right now to bet against this company.
