I talked with some gentlemen from Organic Prairie this morning. Apparently, Sunrich sells some of their soy husks and outer casings to cattle feeding operations near Riceville, Iowa. Organic Prairie is an offshoot of Organic Valley. These are the types of applications I'm talking about when we discuss aggregate PPF. If SunOpta can expand their product portfolio, it will greatly enhance their vertical integration strategy. Likewise, using high-nutrient husks and shells is a great concept in terms of providing organic feeds for animals while using the higher-value products (like the actual grains) for higher payout applications. From seed to table, these are the kinds of marketing opportunities that will help move SunOpta to the next level of growth. Each area in the value chain can be enhanced and brought up to maximum efficiency as organic foods envelop other areas of the economy. As the other industries come into the organic fold, the more we will see opportunities to enhance and develop existing product lines.
