I apologize, I can't stand it any more. My aunt was an English teacher and it has been drilled into my brain. It is one of those things that get under your skin like fingernails on a chalkboard. I have to point out some things...

1. The i comes before the o in "idiot."

2. There are two ways to spell "your" depending on usage. When I talk about something that you have, I will say, "your." When I merge the words "you are" I will say "you're."

Example, "If you're not going to eat your fries, may I have them?"

3. There are three ways to spell "there." When I merge the words "they are" I say "they're." When I talk about something a group of people own, I say "their." When I talk about a place, I say "there."

Example, "They're going to eat their lunch under the tree over there."

4. There are three ways to spell "two." When I am referring to a number, I say "two." When I could just as easily use the word "also" I might choose to say, "too." When I am referring to a destination, I say, "to."

Example, "I am going to the store to buy two apples. Do you want to go too?"

5. There are two ways to spell the word "were." When I merge the words "we are" I say, "we're." when I talk about a past state of being, I say "were."

Example, "Were you at the theater yesterday? We're going today."

The following is a bonus. It took me a long time to get it right and I still mess up once in a while.

When referring to a sequence of events, I will say, "First this happened, THEN the other thing happened." When I am comparing two things, I will say "This is bigger THAN that."

We have some very intelligent people on this board, and I can understand spelling errors, but I cannot abide by atrocious grammar. It's just one of those compulsions I have.
