The Phillies needed to take 2 games at home and head back to NYC with a 2 game lead just like the Marlins in 2003. You remember how the 23 yo Josh Beckett humbled them by shutting them out for 9 innings to win game 4 of the WS.

Cliff Lee is the closest pitcher they have like Beckett. After having won games 1 and 5 for them he is not available to start game 6. Hopefully, the Phils hitters can match the NYY. Utley is doing very well but Rollins and Howard need to put on their hitting shoes.

The NYY are the favorites. It will be hard to beat them twice in their home park. However, there is a chink in their armor. They are relying on 3 starters, Sabathia, Burnett and Pettite. Burnett burned out in game 5. Pettite is tougher but can be gotten to by hitters like Rollins, Howard and Utley. They have to get to him early and knock him out of there just like they did to Burnett. The NYY bullpen is stretched thin and hurting.

If the Phils can get to game 7 they have the momentum. The NYY have to put all their chips on Sabathia. This guy is having a great year but has already pitched 2 games in the WS, on top of everything else. The bottom line is he is tired. I doubt he can be as effective in game 7 as he was in game 4.

The Phils have to win tonight. Those bats have got to come alive.
