EMC Storage Product Revenue 2009      7-Nov-09 06:28 pm
To put the EMC $120 million dollar contract into perspective, lets look at EMC's 9 month ended 2009 financial statements, which according to their own financial statements indicate that storage product revenues (excluding services) totaled the following amounts in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Qtr; $1.572 billion, $1.632 billion, and $1.818 billion. Thats close to 7 billion in annual sales. How many Clarrion storage platforms would you say that is? Also, when you look at there financial statements, there overall inventory balance as of 9/30/09 of $810 million is still below that of the year-end 2009, so there probably watching the inventory balances with all there vendors. Not unusual to try and squeeze a supplier for marketing assistance, and if STEC felt that 1.5 million was enough to make EMC happy, which apparently EMC accepted, than how bad can this be. According to EMC's own sales pitch, its better to sale equipment that uses less energy and is more efficent, was does that sound like. The shorts keep passing negative information to achieve their goals but neither EMC, or IBM for that matter, at any time has come out publically and said anything negative about STEC and its products. On the contrary EMC's CFO commented that the SSD business presented a good growth area for them.
