ASA made history this month when we operated a scheduled commercial flight with an all-female, African-American crew – a first for ASA, and the first known U.S.-based crew of its kind. Captain Rachelle Jones, First Officer Stephanie Grant and flight attendants Diana Galloway and Robin Rogers flew Delta Connection Flight 5202 from Atlanta to Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 12, and returned Flight 5106 to Atlanta using CRJ700 equipment.

Several passengers on these flights noticed the unique situation and snapped photos of the crew using camera phones. It wasn’t long before the photos were circulating through e-mail, drawing attention from local and national media outlets, including CNN. After careful research, it was determined that these flights were indeed a first for U.S.-based crews.

“It’s exciting to be a part of aviation history,” said Rachelle, who has been with ASA since January 2005. “I had no idea I would contribute to the history books when I reported for work that day.”

In response to this historic event, Brad Holt, CEO said, "I think it's extremely fitting that this historic flight happened to take place during Black History Month. Not only are these women valued contributors to ASA's business and culture, they also set a strong example for young women that they can achieve success in any career.

First Officer Grant joined ASA in 2008 after serving in the Army and flight attendants Rogers and Galloway both joined ASA in 2000.
