Thank you everyone for sharing this site and allowing me to post.

October 16, 2008 was a very special day in digital history. Wednesday was the eighth annual iteration of Blog Action Day, an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s Bloggers, Podcasters and Videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day.

This year’s focus was on poverty. All day long, people across the globe were talking about poverty electronically with 12,088 sites posting at least once on the issues concerning poverty.

Organizers estimate that 13,498,280 visitors saw one of more of these poverty-related posts. Many blogs or blog readers also donated to charities working on the issue, and some corporate blogs at firms such as Google and Wells Fargo got involved as well. (Those numbers do not appear to include posts on Twitter and similar microblogging services.)

Charitable donations of time, effort, knowledge, equipment, and so forth are great feel good motivators for all those involved. Win – Win scenario.

This link is just one example of the wonderful accomplishments that can occur when people work together for a common cause.

When this approach is applied at the grass roots level, the impact can be enormous.

I was also given the opportunity on that day to add my commentaries for a documentary concerning the plight of the unfortunate (poverty, homelessness, unemployed, social programs and so forth).

The abbreviated transcription was as follows:
“On the streets of desolations a name and face is not important. What are vitally important are the dedicated staff, volunteers, and charitable contributors who come together and work for the betterment of the community.

God Bless their time, efforts, and concerns with their limited resources. The patrons that are served are from very diversified backgrounds. My abbreviated story is that it only takes a few unfortunate and unpredictable events to be removed from a middle class lifestyle to street poverty.

A lifestyle that is full of heartaches.

Thanks to the blessing of people who care, I will not only survive but someday return to mainstream America.

And in doing so, the good deeds that have eased my transitioning period will be returned blessings for others during their time of need.”
