Here are four questions for SEI, or one of the securities analysts that "follow" the company, or for anyone else that knows the answers - (1) How much in total has SEI so far expensed against earnings for its obligation or desire to support all of its various money market funds that purchased such an incredible amount of bad securities; (2) Why is SEI now buying those bad securities from its money market funds; (3) What is SEI's total potential loss from all of these things; and (4) What does SEI actually estimate that it will lose in total, since it it possible the bad securities may ultimately turn out not to be total losses. I am raising these questions because one simply cannot get to the heart of these matters by reading SEI's SEC filings or press releases which are written in a fashion as to be understandable only by Harvard-trained securities lawyers, or from reading transcripts of investor conference calls where both management and the analyst community seem to beat around the bush.
