They have essentially a passive and active "strategy."

The "passive" part consists of their military project, their handset filter, their China Superfilter work and their LTE integrated-with-the-basestation work. I call it passive because they have the business ops set up, but now have to wait and see how the deployments will go. LTE prolly 2-3 Q of 2010 and same for China. The handsets may be further out cause the industry still happy with SAW technology for now.

The "active" part is the 2g-HTS wire part. They have already had requests by potential customers for the product. They already have a cost effective deposition process. What they have to do is adapt it to wire making. Then get a machine going that can make lengths of 1KM or more. At this point they will definitely have sales. Hence this is a part of the business that really depends on them. Of course if they get some gov money so much the better, but the need and customers are already there... hence ball is in their court.

For the passive stuff it's more like fishing. STI has quite a few lines out and eventually should catch a big customer... but they don't have control over the external conditions... hence passive.

In the case of the 2g-HTS wire the ball is in their court... lots of demand. They just have to come through with the R&D, which should be straight-forward.
