I have felt for awhile that VEGF Trap was similar to Avastin but somewhat better -- especially for the eye.
Genentech has commissioned SurModics to develop a sustained-delivery version of Lucentis (nice move to check Avastin usage) and I think Regeneron should start now in developing a sustained-release version of VEGF Trap even though the drug has not yet been approved.
It's a bit of a gamble but worth it.
I thought REGN would go up today on this news but it will probably have to wait until analysts praise the results of the extension study, which I would expect.
