Thai gas vehicles market is growing


There are now about 155.000 cars running on engines powered by compressed natural gas in Thailand and NGV sales have raised to 3.900 tones a day, state-owned oil and gas conglomerate PTT Plc reported.
Mr. Punnachai Futrakul, PTT's manager supervising the natural gas market for vehicles, said NGV engines were being installed in about 100 vehicles each day, most of them trucks and new cars.
The company had not increased its sales target of compressed natural gas (CNG), sold as natural gas for vehicles, for this year even though the cabinet approved plans to install NGV engines in 30.000 taxis and lease 4.000 NGV public buses.
PTT had asked the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to quickly find locations for setting up 14 new NGV refueling stations, as each of the new natural gas powered buses would need about 100 kilogram’s of fuel a day.
The Thai company now has four super stations that can handle more than 5.000 vehicles a day and provide 230 tones of NGV per day. There are on Kanchanapisek, Rom Klao and both sides of Phahon Yothin roads. The company plans to build two more super stations on Rama IX and Kamphaeng Phet roads.
