It is true that 40G is a niche market. There is not much being sold for 40G per wavelength. According to Ovum Telecom marketing analysts, a 40G channel is 6X the cost of a 10G channel currently. Thus, it doesn't make sense to deploy 40G this year. The price needs to get down to 2-3X of a 10G line and that will probably happen in 2012. Otherwise, 10G lines will dominate the global market deployment. Enjoy.
