You must have been listening to Alain Couder during the recent Ocalro CC ... <smile>. He was predicting that 40/Gbs was too expensive and that combinations of 10/Gbs would be used as walk around solutions for the next 1 1/2 years. In recessions like this I agree Carriers are reluctant to spend money even though it may cost them more in the long run. However, from what I have read JDSU's new products are reducing the cost of ownership ... bringing a value proposition to their customers (Cisco, Tellabs to name a couple).
