I'll throw my 2 cents in.
Marc Faber in this weekend's Barron's roundtable recommended NIE as a pick for '09. However he didn't say much about it nor commented one way or the other on the dividend or tax consequences. Faber has been a permabear for sometime on the US market. He tends towards asian markets....I think he's headquartered in Hong Kong. I don't own NIE. I do own a bit of CHY a similar convertable.preferred fund. I only bought 2 mos. ago and actually have a gain and getting decent div. It looks like NIE has regained much of it's discount to NAV....Am I correct? A 20% dividend looks too good to be true. In a tax deferred account...even if the thing is halved the div. is still a very good return. Anyone else wishing to comment especially in lieu of Faber's mention? Rating :
