Peak Oil......REALLY?      2-Nov-09 09:19 pm
Just read an article at CNBC Energy about world oil reserves.

I was curious about doing the math to see how long it will take for us to run out of oil.

I have always thought that reserves tend to be exaggerated so companies can inflate their values.

What I found from doing the math.......either my math is wrong or there is no way in hell we will run out of oil in the next 1000 years !!

For starters, here is the link to the CNBC article that says world reserves are ~ 1.36 trillion barrels http://www.cnbc.com/id/33550165

Here is my math: 136,000,000,000,000 barrels of claimed reserves
90,000,000 barrels a day world consumption

136,000,000/90 = 1.5 million days of supply = over 4000 years

I don't have an agenda; I am surprised by these numbers. I expected to find a 200 year supply answer?

If you can see where my math is wrong, please point it out. Otherwise, it appears politics will play the biggest role in the price of oil. I don't think we're running out of it anytime soon !

PS: Which country came in 2nd to Saudia Arabia as having the most oil reserves ?
Be thankful, our great neighbor, Canada !

Try 1.36 trillion and not 136 trillion.
