There is an old adage that applies here.

"Believe nothing that you hear and only half what you see."

You friend is either using the truth loosely or has a bad memory.

It takes about 7 days to overcome the nicotine addiction and that is pure hell. That tests your will power.

The next phase which takes about a year tests your ability to solve problems.

After you stop puffing, food tastes better so you probably will gain a little weight. Will you solve that problem by starting to smoke again or exercising more or changing what or how much you eat?

You have a habit of having a cigarette between your lips many times daily. Can you overcome that habit.

You have a habit of raising your hand to your mouth many times a day. Can you overcome that habit.

Can you stay away from places where other people smoke for a year or two.


If you drink, can you stay away from that for a year or two?
