Re: Scanned Laser Projectors Coming of Age      5-Nov-09 01:29 pm
MemsRich - the article does hint to Brother's is using Sumitomo 531nm GL because it pulses. which is what is needed in their 2 mirror projection system.
what the article also hints to is Sumitomo 520nm CW laser could be used for 'Display Panel RSD'.
AND the 531nm is not strong enough to be used in MVIS's SA but may be suitable for MVIS's eye wear.
-but, as HT has said. the cell phone could be used to run MVIS RSD.

"Sumitomo has discussed progress in its research lab on direct emission green lasers, including an announcement of a direct-emission, GaN-based 520nm, 2.5mW laser that could run CW. Earlier, they had announced a 531nm laser, but it could only run in pulsed mode."

what i see Sumitomo is working on is a true GL at 2.5mw laser being able to be both CW and Pulsing which is best suited for eye wear.
as to the build time needed to commercialization their 531nm laser they would need volume to make Brother's RSD come down to be priced for the masses. Sumitomo must have other customers for their 531nm laser.

the other thing i see wrong with Brother's RSDs. the projector is heavy enough to make the glasses tilt on one face.
