Easy for you guys to say nobody wants to lose a job UNTIL IT’S YOU! They didn't make the announcement months ago THEY MADE IT 11-2-09 MONDAY! The facility they are closing was and is out producing the other Garland facility which is located in Ontario, Canada, they are currently on a 3 day work week because they're products are "so in demand". It just helps when you have the president of the Garland facilities housed in Canada; it plainly shows how the decision was made...Why would a company want to produce in Canada only to export to the states especially with the 1.00 Canadian Dollar = 0.9393 U.S. Dollar, DOESN’T MAKE SENSE DOES IT??? Also, they are moving very highly sensitive products, mainly MCDONALDS products; to other facilities...It's been known that MCDONALDS is just being informed of this decision today. Being a friend of many employee's at the Freeland facility, I know how strict MCDONALDS is when it comes to their grills and ovens. Hopefully for Manitowoc and their shareholders they don't discourage MCDONALDS as MCDONALDS is a huge and vital customer of the food service group! Frymaster, a Louisiana based company of Manitowoc's food service group came within inches of loosing their contract with MCDONALDS because of their lack of consistency and quality. The Freeland facility has been producing grills for MCDONALDS since the mid 90’s, and had gained almost 70% of the grill market from its only competitor Taylor. Taylor had been producing for MCDONALDS since the 80’s…GOOD LUCK maintaining this fragile relationship....The Freeland facility demonstrated they could for over 15 YEARS! Lose MCDONALDS LOSE IT ALL!
