Re: Question     15-Apr-09 02:35 pm
Thanks - fascinating article/post. I think it is a matter of perspective. As a shareholder, I'm not all that upset about that gentleman's views. Capitalism is not about the best or nicest products/people winning. If that were the case, then we'd all have Apple computers on our desks instead of Microsoft. As a shareholder of Microsoft in 1990, their "thuggish" behavior turned out pretty well. As a programming geek who knew that Microsoft's product was inferior, it was likely infuriating. I view that tower's post much in that way - he may be right but as a shareholder I really don't care.

Regardless, MLR will remain a dominant player in the market for the cyclical time frame I have for the stock - the next couple/few years. Cyclical companies' stocks are meant to be bought at cycle troughs and SOLD at cycle peaks. Long term rates of return are likely to be modest. I'd love MLR to turn into a secular growth story and who knows what will happen over time as Asians begin to drive more? For now, I expect MLR to make $2.50 to $3.50 per share during the next cycle upswing as the inevitable replacement cycle kicks in and for an 8-12 multiple on those earnings to produce a $20-$30 stock.

By the way - stock is experiencing a short term volume exhaustion and is likely to retrench sharply in the near term. I'm a cyclical holder, but those looking to buy who don't own are likely to get a better price at some point in the next couple/few weeks.
