Millicom Considering Bid For Control Of Colombia's ETB -Report

BOGOTA (Dow Jones)--Millicom International Cellular SA (MICC) is evaluating whether to bid for control of Colombian state-owned telephone company Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota SA (ETB.BO), local newspaper La Republica reported Friday.
The Luxembourg-based mobile-telephone operator, which has a stake in a local cellphone operator, plans to expand to offer other services to customers, La Republica said, quoting the chief executive of Millicom's Colombian unit, Gloria Ortega.
ETB, which is controlled by the Bogota city council, plans to sell new shares equivalent to a controlling stake in the company to a partner in an auction.
The auction, originally scheduled for this month, was delayed after the company's labor union sued to block the partial privatization. The company hasn't set a new date.
Millicom's London office for investors relations declined to comment.
