I have long thought that MDU could end up in Berkshire portfolio somed ay. Very similar in MANY ways to Mid-american energy (Iowa, regulated and non-regulated pieces, great management team)that has become important part of Berkshire.

bEING PART OF bUFFETT EMPIRE MAKES ACCESS TO CAPITAL MUCH EASIER. iF THAT EVER BECOMES A PROBLEM FOR mdu AND THEY WANT TO CONTINUE GROWTH PATH, SUCH A THING COULD HAPPEN.

For now I like the independent route. If Buffett is going all in on the future of the American economy (I love these bets), then MDU is clearly a way to play all in on future economic growth with infrastructure (huge aggregate reserves), energy, pielines, and construction, plus the regulated utilities.
