WASHINGTON (Marketwatch) - Orders for U.S. manufactured goods increased 0.9% in September. Factory orders rose five of the past six months. September's gain was stronger than expected. Inventories fell 1% the 13th consecutive time.

Chicago Purchasers’ Index Climbs to 13-Month High
Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Business activity in the U.S. expanded in October, a sign the economic recovery will persist in the coming months. The ISM-Chicago barometer increased to 54.2 the highest in 13 months and exceeded the forecast of economists. Companies are gearing up. “Many firms see brighter prospects,” Guy LeBas, chief fixed-income economist at Janney Montgomery Scott LLC. “The domestic economy is in recovery.”
