Here is the thing I don't get with book value.
I understand that earnings are added to the book value but, how does paying off long term debt have any effect on the book value.
The company mentions this in their report.
In other words they see the paying off of the LT debt as positive. Why would this be seen as positive if book value is simply subtracting total assets from total liabilities.
The balance sheet should remain the same as cash is moved from one class to the next.
