I'm sure that SOME of those let go were probably in the bucket of "non contributor". But as a shareholder I highly doubt that they successfully found all the dead weight and let them go......more like they picked areas to cut and then left it to the top brass to determine who goes/stays.
As a shareholder, what bothers me is that this seems to have become the continuous answer for this management group. Multiple failed acquisitions (and I'm not demanding perfection but the record is very poor), multiple times we're told they are "right-sizing" the business for the benefit of patients/consumers, multiple different strategies seemingly change every year. I guess the latest is to buy 20% of many different pharma businesses. This shareholder would vote for targetted job cuts PLUS about another 30-40 at the very top, including Bill Weldon and virtually anyone he has brought into their position. This company has the look/feel to it of a country club - driven solely by politics and friendships instead of business results. What happened to the J&J of decentralization where people ran their businesses and were judged on the results? You can't cut your way to growth. And I'd say we have seen that in action the past 8 years. Bill Weldon has had his time and now its time to give someone else a chance to actually lead. Rating :
