This is one of the reasons we need to clean out Washington. Every one in The House must go in the next election and the same for 1/3 of the Senate. We can get rid of the rest of them later. They are such Fools!!!
This disgraceful politician is up in Franklin telling people that the mill should stay open because IP made a profit int he last quarter. IP would have made nothing without government welfare and the asshole knows it. He is up there talking in circles. A proves B. B proves C. C proves A. If he is lying, get rid of him. If he is too stupid to know what his is saying, get rid of him. NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE UNTIL EVERYONE GETS TOTALLY FED UP AND WE ARE CLOSER TO THAT THAN AT ANY OTHER TIME IN MY LIFETIME. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ Barlow By Diana McFarland Smithfield Times News editor FRANKLIN — Besides losing their jobs, workers at the Franklin paper mill are also angry with corporations taking manufacturing jobs out of the country. Many pointed to International Paper’s Tres Lagoas paper mill, which opened this year in Brazil. Some also mentioned International Paper’s recent announcement of solid third quarter earnings as being contradictory to what’s happening in Franklin. “We are all shocked and maybe beginning to show a little anger at a company showing a third quarter profit,” said Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-4th). Those issues and more were discussed Oct. 29 as state and local government officials met with workers to discuss future job strategies. The meeting was held at PDCCC Workforce Development Center in Franklin and more than 500 people attended. About International Paper’s sudden departure, Forbes said it’s difficult to predict when a company will shut down a facility. Tax incentives need to include provisions to prevent companies from walking out after a few years in business, Forbes said. “This is not an isolated situation.” In a phone interview Tuesday, Desmond Stills, local spokesman for International Paper, said, “The reasons to close the mill had nothing to do with profitability.” As for the plant in Brazil, Stills said, “The plant in Brazil was put there to serve a growing paper market there, as opposed to a shrinking market in the United States.” The Tres Loagoas mill has the capacity to produce 200,000 tons of paper a year. The Franklin mill produced 600,000 tons of uncoated freesheet and 140,000 tons of coated paperboard. One worker asked that federal officials be advised that they want manufacturing jobs and not to become a service economy. United Steelworkers leader, Carroll Story, told workers and their families that IP had given workers little chance to explore other options, such as pay cuts in exchange for keeping the mill open.
