The anaolgy is good but not 100%. Companies are required more than ever to Manage their information. Regardless of what programmers say dumping data into linear silos or letting it languish on shared drives ,in pst's or in a cloud is not record management. IRM is already in this area but again with prehistoric solutions. The analogy is true that IRM due to their monolithic size was not able to move fast enough to compete with companies that were able to grow in scale with their clients and grow organicly rather than by market manipulation. IRM is already in the front door of the places they need to be. When the industry finds it's feet in the next few years hoepfully a direction will present itslef. I have long term relationships with folks there. I want them to succeed but I want them to get over themselves. The thing is when I can scan a piece of paper in the US, index it offshore, transact it offshore,upload and auto attach it to an existing report and have a robot fax it to counsel sitting in a hotel in a european country getting ready to arbitrate a half billion settlement and shred all the paper afterward and do it in about 15 minutes, it becomes hard to sell expensive box storage to CEOs.. Better yet I can do this several thousand times a day.
