HBIO tried to buy and fold in too many companies at once. This caused them to make some serious errors in judgement for some of the ones they bought; especially Genomic Solutions. Combine this with Chane's misguided philosophy of cutting all costs (support, service and R&D) from the instrument companies that HBIO bought and it is a recipe for disaster. He thought that he could treat the instrument companies (Union Biometrica, Biochrom and Genomic Solutions) like the Harvard, Hugo Sachs and Warner Instruments that made small (non capital) goods that could be sold through third party distibutors (FISHER/VWR) and their catalog.

I think that Chane should be playing golf and spending more time in Florida. Time for a new CEO. He should have taken the $5 per share bid he had a number of months ago....
