Sent a message into Garmin IR last night saying I wasn't happy with the response that was given regarding the competitive threat from Google - could they please elaborate on their strategy. Here is what I got back this morning.

"As mentioned yesterday, application-based navigation has been available for over 3 years but due to the quality, form factor and cost, has continued to be a secondary source. For people who are infrequent navigation users (likely never in the market for a PND anyway), applications are “good enough” but in the near-term, the offering from Google cannot match the quality of Garmin. We are not pretending that no one is going to use it but instead understand that this is just one more competitor in a long line of big name competitors that have tried to take share in navigation (including Sony, Motorola, Verizon and many others). Will people use it? Yes! Will it significantly change in the PND market in the next 12 months? We don’t think so. And in that 12 months, we will do what we always do – continue to innovate and execute around our long-term strategy of providing the best navigation and communication experience in each of our segments.
