Dr. Donath is now conducting trial in type 1 diabetes with Xoma's 052 antibody. He first used anakinra, which proved the hypothesis, but 052 has better qualities like once a month dosing and lower dose level due to its inhibition of the ligand and not the receptor.

052 looks like a breakthrough in the treatment of diabetes. Beta cell function is actually restored as 052 saves beta cells from inflammatory self-destruction.
