Which Companies Will Profit From the Production of New Tanning and Anti-Cancer Drug Delivery Agents?      7-Jul-09 02:13 pm
It is believed by many that tanning beds are not completely safe, especially for younger people. Legislation is pending to restrict their use.
http://www.dermanetwork.org/news/news_de... Therefore, people seeking tans will be amenable to new venues for getting that perfect tan.

It had previously been an assumption that tanning or sun’s rays directly affect the melanin cells, leading to melanoma; that is not true. UV rays do not damage the melanin as previously believed; melanin cells are resistant to the admittance of the radiation form of chemotherapy. The sun’s UV rays stimulate other skin cells called keratinocytes to start producing Melanocyte Stimulating Hormones (MSH), which then send out chemical messages to start the skin darkening process. Blocking a melanocyte regulator may be one key to preventing skin cancer.

Scientists have also discovered, after studying the skin differences between light skinned or red-headed people and darker people, that receptors (called MC1R) for MSH were shaped differently in lighter skinned and red-headed people than in darker people, thus limiting the production of a chemical called cAMP in lighter-skinned people, which causes genes to be produced which make melanin. A compound called forskolin derived from a plant in India was found to stimulate the production of MSH and produce a tan in red-headed, fair-skinned mice, with no difference from the tan produced by UV rays.

Normally, the melanin-producing cells will stop dividing and eventually die. If there is an aberrant gene initiating too-much melanoma production, and production of these melanin cells is not halted (apoptosis), melanomas form. The production of melanoma cells is augmented by the CDK2 enzyme, as discovered by David E. Fisher, Ph.D., et al. There are genes that regulate the production of the CDK2 enzyme, and if they are mutated, malignant melanomas can result. Drugs suppressing the formation of the CDK2 enzyme can result in the halting of additional melanoma cell formation.

Foods eaten can also have a role in slowing the proliferation of cancer cells. A glass of red wine with a stew which includes onions, garlic, tomatoes, turmeric, hot pepper, ginger, edamame, cauliflower, with greet tea ice cream for dessert is an anti-carcinogenic meal containing foods with chemicals which could assist in the implementation of apoptosis, the halting of cancer cell division. The red wine contains polyphenols such as resveratrol, the onions and tomatoes contain quercetin, the tomatoes, lycopene, the green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), curcumin in tumeric, and the cauliflower contains sulforaphane and other isothiocyanates, all of which have been shown to induce apoptosis, the slowing of the division rate of cancer cells. Onions, as well as seafood, grains and meats, (and especially Brazil nuts) contain selenium, which is necessary for the production of glutathione oxidase, an anti-carcinogenic agent. Concentrated amounts of the chemicals can also be obtained in pill form.

There are already creams with forskolin in them. What other forms of delivery can be used for tanning preparations containing forskolin, polyphenols, ECGC, curcumin and or selenium, and which will be the next company to profit from said delivery?

Maybe it will be this company.
