My Visit to Flame Seal:     16-Oct-09 02:11 pm
Approximately 3 weeks ago I went to Houston and met with Mike for almost 2 hours. Mike was very gracious with his time and went out of his way to accommodate my visit. Flame Seal is what you might expect at this time, a small company. Flame Seal offices are in the shadows of Reliant Park and the Astrodome, may be 5 minutes away at the most. The offices are your typical office front on one side and freight doors on the other. Flame Seal occupies 3 separate areas for offices and manufacturing and my guess is they occupy 10,000-12,000 sq ft. The Google street view is what you see is what you get.

Based on today's news that means Flame Seal's new additional space will be in the neighborhood of 30,000 to 40,000 sq ft. (My personal opinion on this is extremely bullish and positive.) Flame Seal currently has 13 employees and I think I met most of them. Some have been with Flame Seal for many years. So yes they do have employees that show up for work every day and work hard and take their jobs seriously. (Again my opinion is the employee count will rise dramatically when new space is operating at full capacity).

Outside of the offices in the manufacturing/mixing area I noticed chemicals and components stacked from the floor to the ceiling. In addition there was a good amount of vats and other mixing equipment to produce the Flame Seal Product. In the 2nd Bay I saw the new mixing tank (that yes has been used)and I climbed a 15 ft (approx) set of stairs to have a look down inside. Also in this bay were a lot of 50 gal and 5 gal plastic containers.

Mixing the Flame Seal products is certainly more involved than say mixing a cake batter. It is a highly sophisticated automated system. I actually held the Fed Ex piece of envelope in my hand. I saw a live demonstration by Mike holding the piece in his hand and apply a 1500 degree torch to the Fed Ex envelope. A black substance raises up about inch and Mike scraped it off so I could see the Fed Ex label, just like in the video. The other amazing part is the piece was cool to the touch immediately after the torch is removed.
