Facts about Oil      6-Sep-09 05:49 pm
The world consumes 31 Billion Barrels of petroleum annually. The US consumes about 8 Billion Barrels annually. The US has 4% of the World's Population, 3% of the World Oil Reserves and consumes 25% of World Oil Production. Source: US Energy Information Agency

Per the link below, United States Geological Survey estimates that the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, ANWAR, contains between 5.7 and 16. Billion Barrels of Recoverable Oil. Therefore, ANWAR oil would at most run the world for 6 months or the US at most for 2 years.

From Wikipedia regarding ANWAR:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Refu...
"In 1998, the USGS estimated that between 5.7 and 16.0 billion barrels (2.54×109 m3) of technically recoverable crude oil and natural gas liquids are in the coastal plain area of ANWR, with a mean estimate of 10.4 billion barrels (1.65×109 m3), of which 7.7 billion barrels (1.22×109 m3) lie within the Federal portion of the ANWR 1002 Area.[17]"

The Bakken Shale deposit in North Dakota, Montana and Canada is also often reported as a recently discovered huge reserve. Bakken was actually discovered in 1951. It is 5 to 10,000 feet down and is a near solid, waxy, extremely high viscosity deposit. The recoverable amount of Bakken oil is estimated at 4 Billion Barrels and expensive to recover. Yet, this deposit is hyped by oil company shills as a resource non recoverable, because of Environmental Laws and Liberal Politicians.
owes his soul and his job to big oil.

From Wikipedia about Bakken Shale Oil Deposit:
"The flurry of drilling activity in the Bakken, coupled with the wide range of estimates of in-place and recoverable oil, led North Dakota senator Byron Dorgan to ask the USGS to conduct a study of the Bakken's potentially recoverable oil. In April 2008 the USGS released the report, which estimated the amount of technically recoverable, undiscovered oil in the Bakken Formation at 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels (680,000,000 m3), with a mean of 3.65 billion.[4] Later that month, the state of North Dakota's report [5] estimated that of the 167 billion barrels (2.66×1010 m3) of oil in-place in the North Dakota portion of the Bakken, 2.1 billion barrels (330,000,000 m3) were technically recoverable with current technology."
