As an end-user you make valid points. And its early adopters like yourself that validate the market and technology for the likes of Brocade, Emulex, Qlogic, CISCO, etc….
You have a requirement for FCoE and you chose the best available card today for FCoE. I was trying to make a point that there have been recent blogs by trainer that have been very biased towards certain vendors like Qlogic, and have been factually incorrect & short sited. He may be a very good writer, but has to put food on the table and certain vendors to like to sponsor these guys in various ways – No major harm in that I guess Back to Emulex - on paper and with the initial public announcements that Emulex have made the strategy seems sound and they are executing well against it. I did see another blog this week from a journalist who attended one of their press launches who said Emulex stated the FCoE enabled cards would ship in a few weeks, or at least by the end-of the year. I would guess most end-users in the next 6-12 months will only use FCoE in test environments to prove the technology. The major point here is that the company that owns 10GBe in the datacenter servers will ultimately win, if they can combine it with a strong and proven fibre channel stack at the right price. It may not be Qlogic or Emulex. But the marriage of Emulex FC skills and serverengines 10Gbe skills, ultimately puts them ahead of Qlogic. Their challenge will be validating themselves in this space 10GBe space and I guess this will be done through OEM design wins – Something had Broadcom a little worried after all Rating :
